Mainstay

The Mainstay Residence is a supervised room and board environment that provides short term accommodation, meals, and a stable environment for adult men and women who are largely disadvantaged, in personal distress, often chemically dependent and homeless.

The residence is staffed 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, providing support, continuity, and a sense of security to residents.

Mainstay's 28 rooms are designed to allow for up to 34 residents at any one time. Residents are required to work with staff to arrange for sufficient funding to cover the per diem rate. Most residents received in Mainstay are referred through other MSP services, or via external agencies.

Mainstay residents often transition, based on individual plans and goals, to safe accommodations, long term supported housing, substance abuse treatment programs, or other situations suited to their personal needs. Clients are expected to work actively on their transition plan thoughout the duration of their stay.

Through a time limited grant provided by the Winnipeg Housing & Homelessness Iniative, Mainstay has recently garnered the support of a full time Occupational Therapist, and a Development Activity Worker. These individuals are working with all Mainstay residents to assess, educate, prepare, and place them for long term success individually, and in the community at large.

Anyone interested in completing an application for access to Mainstay's transitional housing can contact the Manager of Transition Services directly at (204) 982-8221, or via email at lcaron@mainstreetproject.ca
