Main Street Project is pleased to announce the appointment of Jamil Mahmood to the position of Executive Director, effective January 4, 2021.

Jamil brings to Main Street Project a wealth of knowledge and diverse background of experiences supporting the most vulnerable members of our community. Most recently, Jamil worked with the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority providing mobile outreach services including harm reduction supplies, education and support services to Winnipeg’s most marginalized people. Jamil was also previously the Executive Director of the Spence Neighbourhood Association, another important community organization, which he led for over ten years.

Jamil graduated from the University of Winnipeg with a Bachelor’s degree in International Development Studies after spending two years working abroad in Pakistan and Ecuador. His education includes courses in restorative justice, intercultural competencies and victim offender mediation.

Through all of his work and experiences, Jamil has seen firsthand the importance of and better outcomes when meeting people where they are at, as well as the importance of collaborating with many different partners and funders to meet the needs of the community served by Main Street Project. Jamil is a passionate and tireless advocate for people experiencing mental health issues, substance use issues and homelessness in Winnipeg and he is uniquely qualified to lead MSP.

Jamil says, “I am really excited to join the Main Street Project leadership team. Main Street Project is a leader in the homelessness sector and I couldn’t be more honoured than to work with these amazingly talented and highly committed people.”
