Main Street Project’s COVID-19 Response

Main Street Project is taking necessary measures to address COVID-19 across the agency’s facilities as the health and safety of our staff and community members remains a top priority. We are not suspending essential services such as emergency shelter or food bank services.

Until further notice, we are suspending our volunteer programming, community programming/community meetings, tours and the acceptance of all food and clothing donations across all of our facilities. The agency has also postponed its annual fundraising benefit until further notice.

We will still accept donations of coffee, bottled water, alcohol-based hand sanitizer, face masks and non-perishable food items but please email to arrange your drop off before coming by.

Here’s what we are doing in our program areas:

Emergency Shelter and Drop In Services
We have moved all emergency shelter and drop-in services to 190 Disraeli Freeway with appropriate social distancing in place.

Food Bank Services
We are still operating our Food Bank at this time. We will be moving to a hamper model rather than a shopping experience to limit interactions.

Withdrawal Management Services
We are limiting intakes in both Withdrawal Management facilities to ensure we comply with social distancing recommendations, while continuing our commitment to service delivery.

Residential Services
We have moved to single occupancy rooms for Mainstay Residence. The Bell Hotel is already single occupancy.

Protective Care
Protective Care will maintain its single occupancy per unit and changes will be made to service provision.

Isolation Suites
We have opened 39 isolation suites so that individuals experiencing homelessness can self-isolate and self-monitor while awaiting a COVID-19 test result, or so they have a safe place to recover from COVID-19. Individuals are referred to the isolation site through the healthcare system, not through self-referral.
